Preventing, Recognizing, and Reporting Abuse and Neglect in Long-Term Care is a self-paced orientation course on abuse prevention that will equip or refresh long-term care team members on the knowledge and skills required to support residents.

Understanding how to prevent abuse and neglect is a critical skill for LTC team members as they care for residents from a position of power and trust. By taking this course, team members will learn the importance of following protocol in situations of abuse or neglect to ensure the safety of residents.

How To Receive An Abuse Prevention Certificate

  • Go to https://learn.clri-ltc.ca/
  • Click the orange “Sign Up for Your Free Account”. (Please note, however your name is entered when creating your profile is how it will appear on your certificate once you’ve completed the online class)
  • You will receive a registration link to your provided email to complete your account registration. Click the link you receive in your e-mail. This will bring you back to https://learn.clri-ltc.ca/
  • Log in with the email and password you created
  • Click the orange “+ Find a New Course” on your profile page
  • Scroll down to the course entitled “LTCO. Preventing, Recognizing, and Reporting Abuse and Neglect in Long-Term Care” and click it (Please note all of these courses are free. Feel free to take as many as you like 😊)
  • On the page it brings you to, click the orange “Take This Course”
  • Click the orange “Click to Start the Course”
  • “What prompted you to take this course?” check “It is mandatory”
  • “Where did you find out about this course?” check “A manager, administrator, or director of care”
  • Select the green “Submit”
  • Take the survey and select the green “Submit”
  • Click “Start” on the photo of the course
  • Complete the 20-minute course. (Please note, your volume must be on to hear the instructions)
  • Once the course is complete, complete the exit survey and select “Submit”
  • Your certificate will be under your profile. Select the green “Your Courses” at the top right of the screen (Please note, if you do not complete the course, you can always return to it by selecting “Your Courses” in the top right)
  • You will see a green check mark near the course you’ve completed and an orange box in the shape of a certificate
  • Select the orange box next to the green “Complete” and it will open your Abuse Prevention certificate as a pdf. You can print it, save it, or e-mail it.

Certificate will be stored under “Your Courses”. If you would like us to print the certificate there will be a $1 charge. Once you it, you should send the certificate to our [email protected] email and you can pick it up at our office the next business day.
